One for the audio geeks (including myself) if ever I saw one!
Berkeley Lab physicists are applying the techniques used to study sub atomic particles to map the surfaces of old cylinder and 78 recordings. The R&D process they have developed allows the material to be digitised minus any surface scratches and dirt.
